Message from the Chair, Department of Commercial Law

Welcome to the Department of Commercial Law where we train modern lawyers for a fast moving global economy and a demanding justice system. We combine rigorous scholarship with practical, career-ready skills to produce graduates who think sharply, act ethically, and lead with confidence.

As a student, you will learn law the way it is practiced: grounded in doctrine, tested by policy, sharpened by research, and applied through real-world problem-solving. Our programmes prepare you for contentious and non-contentious practice including but not limited to commercial transactions and litigation, human rights and family law, land governance and labour law, governance and regulation, dispute resolution (including alternative justice systems), and public service.

For partners we offer a responsive platform for joint research, policy and law-reform support, executive and professional training, guest lecturing and mentoring, and student placements/clinicals. We welcome collaborations that turn evidence into impact and strengthen markets, accountability, access to justice, and sustainable development.

Whether you are joining us to study, to partner, or to co-create impact, we invite you to connect with our faculty and students and help shape practical, research-informed and impactful outcomes. We look forward to working with you and to support your success.

Dr Wilson Ngigi

Chairman, Department of Commercial Law
